INSTRUMENTS FOR DEEPER LISTENING

A curated collection of professional sound instruments from Meinl Sonic Energy, selected for sound practitioners, facilitators, musicians, and anyone looking to bring more texture and resonance into their practice.

Curation

I’ve spent years working with sound professionally, and I’m particular about the instruments I bring into my own sessions. This collection features some of my favorite tools from Meinl Sonic Energy, from rainsticks and chimes to gongs, percussion, and other instruments that add dimension without requiring years of musical training.

Whether you’re building your first sound kit or looking for that one instrument that fills a gap in your existing collection, these are pieces I actually recommend.

Rainmaker ≈ 15 min

An entire landscape of sound from a single instrument.

This is one of those instruments that completely changes the atmosphere of a room. Once turned, the cascading sound continues for approximately 15 minutes—creating an incredibly immersive layer of texture without requiring you to continuously play.

I love it for longer sound journeys because you can set it in motion and allow the sound to evolve organically while moving to bowls, gongs, voice, or other instruments. The effect can move from a delicate rainfall to something that feels almost oceanic.

I especially love it for: transitions, extended sound baths, grounding, creating natural soundscapes, and adding movement beneath sustained tones.

Size: 60" / 152 cm tall
Sound duration: Approximately 15 minutes
Sound: Immersive, cascading + rain-like

Kenari Chimes

An earthy cascade of texture and movement.

The Kenari Chimes are one of my favorite ways to introduce organic texture into a sound journey. Made from natural Kenari seed nutshells suspended from a solid piece of mahogany, they create a crisp, cascading sound that feels somewhere between rustling leaves, falling seeds, and rainfall.

Unlike traditional metal chimes, their sound is earthy and tactile rather than tonal, making them especially beautiful for adding movement between sustained instruments like crystal bowls or gongs. They can be played gently for a subtle layer of texture or more dynamically when you want the sound to really fill the space.

I especially love them for: transitions, grounding, nature-inspired soundscapes, adding texture between bowls and gongs, and creating moments of movement within a sound bath.

Materials: Kenari seed nutshells + mahogany
Sound: Crisp, organic + textural
Size: Approx. 16.7" × 14.6"

15” Rain Disk

A wash of sound that moves like water.

The Meinl Sonic Energy Rain Disk creates a continuous, flowing texture reminiscent of gentle rainfall. As you slowly tilt and rotate the disk, tiny beads move across its interior, creating an immersive wash of sound that can shift from a delicate drizzle to a fuller, more enveloping rainstorm.

I love the Rain Disk because you have so much control over the experience—the speed and angle of your movement shape the intensity of the sound in real time. It’s especially beautiful layered underneath crystal bowls, gongs, or voice, or used on its own as a transition between different parts of a sound journey.

I especially love it for: transitions, grounding, nature-inspired soundscapes, layering beneath sustained tones, and creating the sensation of rain moving through the room.

Size: 16" / 40 cm diameter
Sound: Flowing, immersive + rain-like
Ideal for: Sound baths, meditation, transitions + layered soundscapes

Yoga Nidra Singing Bowls

A gentle invitation into deeper states of rest.

The Meinl Sonic Energy Yoga Nidra Singing Bowls are designed with relaxation in mind, producing warm, sustained tones that gently fill the space without feeling overly bright or intrusive. Their soft resonance makes them especially beautiful for practices where the sound is meant to support stillness rather than become the focus.

I love these bowls for Yoga Nidra because they can act almost like sonic punctuation, marking the beginning or end of a practice, supporting transitions between stages, or gently guiding awareness back into the room. They’re equally beautiful for meditation, restorative yoga, breathwork, or anywhere you want to introduce sound without overwhelming the nervous system.

I especially love them for: Yoga Nidra, deep rest, restorative practices, opening + closing meditation, and gently marking transitions.

Sound: Warm, sustained + soothing
Ideal for: Yoga Nidra, meditation, restorative yoga, breathwork + relaxation
